National Lottery Funded COVID-19 Project
Ghana Union Greater Birmingham {GUGB} was one of the Delivery Partners that delivered the National Lottery funded COVID-19 Project on behalf of GUM that finished in March 2021. GUGB was assigned to deliver three virtual talks on COVID-related topics. Due to the lockdown restrictions, it became necessary for us to deliver the project activities virtually using online learning, workshops, and discussions. We adopted ZOOM and Facebook as the platform used to deliver the online sessions. This allowed us to reach a wider audience. The first virtual talk assigned to GUGB was delivered on 24th October 2020, and the topic was COVID-19: Overview, Infection, and Prevention. In total, 95 people participated in this talk through Facebook [32] and ZOOM [63]. The second talk was delivered on 16th January 2021 and the topic was how effective and safe is the coronavirus vaccines in the fight against the pandemic. In total, 251 people participated in this talk through Facebook [114] and ZOOM [137]. The third talk was delivered on 27th February 2021 and the topic was Oral Health & the COVID-19 Pandemic. In total, 129 people participated in this talk through Facebook [47] and ZOOM [82]. The source of the number of people who participated in the virtual talks was compiled from the data collected from ZOOM and Facebook storage.

Educational Visit
As part of the delivery of the youth leadership project, GUGB participants joined their colleagues from Wolverhampton and went on an educational visit to London. On Friday 21st October 2016 and during the school, half-term holiday, 35 participants on the project from the two locations i.e., Birmingham and Wolverhampton went on an educational trip to London. The participants were accompanied by three trustees from GUM, and also two parents each from Birmingham and Wolverhampton to supervise the youngsters. They were hosted by the Ghana High Commission in London, where the youngsters had an insight into the diplomatic mission and how it works. The High Commissioner ensured that all the 12 divisional heads at the Mission were around to brief the youngsters about the work of their respective divisions and the opportunity of perusing a diplomatic career in the foreign service. The briefing session was followed by a ‘Questions and Answers’ session. Lunch was also provided by the Mission and this gave the youngsters the opportunity to interact with the diplomatic staff. We rounded the trip to London by visiting popular spots including the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, and the famous Oxford Street. The trip to London was the first time that some of the project participants had visited London.Â
